Pinkerton's boys volleyball team had no problem with Souhegan in its season opener, breezing to a 25-17, 25-12, 23 victory. Andrew Stefanelli had 14 service points and Chris Espinola came through with 11 kills.

LAWRENCE — The third time was the charm for St. John’s Prep.

Despite getting blanked by Andover twice in the regular season, the Eagles got the last laugh, ending the Golden Warriors’ season last night 25-20, 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14 in the Division 1 North Final.

Ylvin Hiraldo notched a team-best 25 assists and 10 service points as No. 7 Lawrence bested No. 3 Latin Academy 25-24, 25-19, 25-20 in the quarterfinals of the North tournament. Ramon Heredia added 12 kills for the Lancers, who travel to face Andover on Saturday, with the time depending on the Andover baseball game.

Matt Washburn tallied a team-high 15 kills, nine blocks and six aces as No. 2 Andover cruised to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 win over No. 7 Methuen in the quarterfinals of the North volleyball tournament. Mike Emmons added a team-best 31 assists, Tommy Busta had 12 digs and Gary Hinds tallied 10 kills for the Golden Warriors, who will host Lawrence on Saturday at either 5 or 7 p.m., depending on the results of the baseball team.

Methuen dropped Lowell in straight sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, to advance to the North quarterfinals. Corey Michaud had a big game with 15 kills and 13 digs, and Mark Dougherty chipped in 31 assists. Also adding a win on the local volleyball scene, Lawrence topped Boston Latin in straight sets in the Div. 2 North first round.

Kevin Dorgan racked up 16 service points and Steven Kupiec added 14 kills as Methuen dropped B.C. High, 25-8, 25-12, 25-15. Vinny Calautti was strong at the net as he tallied eight solo blocks.

Pat Guidi had 18 service points to go along with 36 assists and three aces as Central Catholic downed Haverhill, 25-17,  25-20, 21-25, 25-18.
