Nicole Curry found the net five times and keeper Kara Beaulieu made six saves as Pinkerton doubled up Salem, 12-6. Heather Carr and Sammi Benson each scored twice for the Astros while Kacie Connal had a goal and two assists. Salem received single goals from six different players | Laura Santos, Aly Higgins, Sara Halbich, Kyleigh Keating, Tatum Dyer and Taylor Dyer.

Not a dull day for Fenwick's Dullea

Bridget Dullea had one of those days she will probably never forgot.

"I just kept scoring ... it was ridiculous," the 16-year-old junior attack from Peabody said after reaching an individual milestone with eight goals and one assist as Bishop Fenwick (4-0) held off Gloucester, 12-11, in girls' lacrosse on the Fenwick campus yesterday. Her nine-point flurry was a school mark in addition to the eight strikes.

Manchester Essex girls lax team earns first win over Newburyport

The Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team registered their first win of the season yesterday and every player saw playing time in the 12-5 victory over Newburyport.

Senior Molly Osborne netted a hat trick, while sophomore Hillary Doucette, Amanda Azadian and Shane Gordon added two goals each. Goalie Vicky Grimes played well in net for the Hornets (1-2), making 12 saves.

Ipswich beats Triton with early onslaught

The Tigers (2-1) blitzed to a 7-2 lead at hafltime and held on for dear life after the break as Triton came storming back. Ipswich came away with an 11-10 win.

Erin Vana led the offense with a hat trrick while Lyndsay French had two goals and an assist and Kim Corkum added a pair of goals with a helper. Sarah Mallard chipped in a goal to go with two assists.

Osborne leads the Hornets on and off the field

The team always comes first for Manchester Essex senior lacrosse standout Molly Osborne. Nothing can illustrate that fact more than what happened to her last week.

Representing Manchester Essex High School, Osborne was nominated for the Salem News Student Athlete Award. Each nominee from the 14 local high schools had to be interviewed last Thursday before the dinner and ceremony that night at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem. The problem for Osborne was that the interviews were occurring at the same time as her team's season opener against Masconomet.
