Methuen clinched at least a share of the Merrimack Valley Conference title with a 41-26 victory over Chelmsford. Shaun McCarthy had a key 7-5 decision at 215 for the unbeaten Rangers (20-0).

Central Catholic clipped Lowell 34-21 to set up a showdown with Methuen next Wednesday. If the Raiders (18-1) win, they'll create a three-way Merrimack Valley Conference championship with Lawrence and Methuen. Central won several close decisions last night, including by Mark Strassel (135), Tom Lacroix (160) and Tyler Yeasted (189).

North Andover sophomore Danny Connelly handed Pentucket's Austin Perreault his first loss of the season, a 4-0 decision at 152, as the Knights (22-3-1) rolled over Pentucket 45-18.

Thanks partly to a key win by West Newbury's Mike Mayo at 130, St. John's Prep captured the Catholic Conference title for the 12th straight year, beating Malden Catholic 37-24.

On senior night, Joanel Santiago moved into the lineup and recorded a first-period pin for Lawrence in a 50-17 victory over Andover. Also for the Lancers (18-6), Juan Rodriguez had a big 3-2 decision over Andover's Brian Martin.

Shaking off a spate of Pinkerton decisions in the middle weights, Timberlane rode commanding victories to a 49-18 victory. Matt Morris earned Wrestler of the Meet honors at 130 pounds by trouncing Dave Owens, 13-0. Will Smith was also impressive with a technical fall at 112 pounds. Daniel Barker (135) and Collin Crowell (145) had pins for the Astros.

With only two matches actually contested on the day, Dracut took a 16-12 victory over Haverhill. Terrance Jean-Jacques earned the Hillies' lone competitive victory with a 48-second pin in heavyweight competition.

Freshman Kevin Clark had a second-period pin at 130 to spark Pentucket to a resounding 66-12 victory over Everett. Peter Koopman had a 13-second pin at 171 for the Sachems (7-4).

After defeating Central Catholic for the first time ever over the weekend, Lawrence's wrestling team had another historic win last night, blasting Lowell 45-19 for its first win over the Red Raiders. Jorge Aquino sparked the win with an 11-3 major decision over the state's No. 1-ranked 103-pounder, Andrew Gauthier, and Kevin Valerio had a 13-2 major decision over Lowell Holiday placer Frank McCarthy. Aquino is now 25-4 on the year and Valerio is 27-2.

North Andover's Ryan Gaiss picked up his seventh win of the year to remain undefeated with a pin just 2:49 into his match for Phillips Academy, in a 45-22 loss at Tabor Academy.
