ANDOVER — The game could not have begun any worst for the Andover High defense.

Boston College High School running back Danny Abraham — one year after rushing for nearly 400 yards against Andover — broke his first carry of 2017 for a 68 yard touchdown, and the Golden Warriors could not recover, falling to the Eagles 34-7 in the season-opener for both teams.

LOWELL  — Thomas Manty saw the puck come free, and with the opportunity of a lifetime in his sight, he reacted.

“I just had to dive,” he said. “The puck hit the goalie’s left pad and squirted out. I saw the loose puck, I dove and the next think I knew I was celebrated in the student section.”

LOWELL — Under the brightest lights, facing a seemingly constant attack, Central Catholic freshman Matt Pasquale was nothing short of outstanding.

Methuen just got a lot stronger in the upper weights.

Wrestling in his first meets of the season, Eagle-Tribune All-Star Darius Franklin went 3-0, with two wins at 182 and another at 195 to highlight the Rangers' title at the BC Dual Tournament, where they won all four matches handily.

NORTH ANDOVER- It's hard to be upbeat after a 8-2 defeat at the hands of B.C High, but Central Catholc head coach Mike Jankowski is confident with what he saw on the ice from his team.

"Overall we played pretty decently," said Jankowski. "Unfortunately we got the two majors and we were shorthanded for eight minutes. That's a good portion of the game in which you leave a team like that opportunities which they capitilized on."

Methuen showed its dual meet prowess in a big way Saturday.

The Rangers romped over BC High, Wilmington, Brockton and Brookline to improve to 9-0 and give signs that they could be tough to beat in the Merrimack Valley Conference. The rout of BC High (54-18) was payback against a team that edged Methuen in the Oliver Ames Tournamentas, romping over BC High. 

Goalie Cam Hayward picked up 15 saves and notched an assist, helping the Pinkerton lacrosse team over BC High, 11-8.

Joshua Gallant scored four goals and assisted on two others as Pinkerton topped BC High 8-6.

Andover's swim team remained unbeaten (5-0) by shaving BC High, 95-89. Eric Zhao, Eric Shi and Aaron Wu were all individual winners and instrumental on three relay winners.

Andover edged BC High 96-90 in swimming behind Dave Hunter who won two individual events and was on two winning relays. John Belanger also stood out for the Warriors (4-0).
