Phillips storms to 57-18 victory

Phillips Academy opened the season in grand fashion, crushing Nobles, 57-18, thanks to 11 top finishes.

Chris Latham of Groveland gained a measure of revenge as he took a 6-1 decision over his 160-pound Nobles opponent, which beat him last year. Also highlighting Phillips' decisive victory was North Andover's Ryan Gaiss, who won via pin in 1:44. Colt Dempsey registred the most decisive victory, pinning his 125-pound opponent in just 24 seconds.

In the 50th minute, the Noble and Greenough squad was awarded a corner kick that produced the game-winner against the visiting Governor's Academy (10-3-1), 1-0.

Nobles 2, Governor's Academy 1

The Govs (6-10) came out strong and scored the game's first goal but a very tough home-advantaged Nobles squad scored two unanswered goals for the 2-1 win on Wednesday. The Govs offense of Kate Leary, Polly Merck, Chrissy Toomey, Katie Wolfe, and Christine Goglia looked impressive, as did the Govs defense, anchored by Caitlin Toomey, Jill Conway, Hannah Rochman, and Demi Leone. Midfielders Ellie Clayman and Maggie Morrissey also played well. Conway assisted Merck for the lone Gov's score.

Marshall picked up the assist on Hammerl's goal, and Hammerl picked up the assist on Marshall's goal as each player finished with two points. Goalkeeper Britt Hart stopped six shots to earn the shutout for Brooks, who improved to 11-2-1.
