Methuen's softball team broke open a close game with 11 runs in the top of the seventh in an 11-4 win over Wellesley. Becca Caterino (3 for 5) had two doubles and three RBIs in the inning. Leadoff batter Courtney Bradley began the big inning with a double and was 3 for 4 with three runs scored for the Rangers (3-2).

North Andover places fifth at States

North Andover placed fifth in the Girls All State Gymnastics meet. The Scarlet Knights were led by Michelle Hall, who finished eighth overall with a 35.975 and Meghan Buttress rounded out the top-10 with a 35.425

Rangers on roll

Methuen's wrestling team rolled to three easy wins, 61-4 over Lwominster, 56-10 over Georgetown and 60-18 over Pentucket to improve to 6-0. Framingham Tournament champ Shaun McCarthy won three more matches at 215 and Framingham winner C.J. Doherty was unbeaten at 135. Also, Scott Delrossi continued to impress at 160 with three wins.

Triton falls in first round of state tourney

No. 8 Wellesley beat No. 25 Triton in the preliminary round of the Division 2 East Tournament. Craig White and Caleb Woodworth scored one goal each for the Vikings (8-9). Chris LeSage had an assist. Carson True earned the praise of Vikings coach Donna Andersen for his work in goal.
