Ashley LeBlanc scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Amanda Petrow scored 13 and registered 11 rebounds as Methuen rolled past Whittier, 62-41. Beka Costa added 14 points for the 4-12 Rangers.

 Raudy Minaya (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Kyle Mansour (18 points, 10 rebounds) had impressive double-doubles and Mike Gorman added 13 points and 8 assists as Methuen downed Chelmsford 65-52.

Andover held off Central Catholic to win the Merrimack Valley Conference Meet by a 3-point margin.

Lowell outdistance Andover, 89-79, for the boys' title.

The Andover girls won the 4x400 and 4x200 relays, Moira Cronin cleared 5-6 to tie a 29-year-old record in the high jump and Eve Bishop smashed the 300 mark and also captured the long jump. 

 Central Catholic clinched the save of the MVC title with a 65-33 win over Methuen.

Kyle Mansour scored 13 points and grabbed 12 boards to lead Methuen to a lopsided 59-32 win over Dracut. James Staples drilled three 3-pointers and totalled 12 points. Raudy Minaya also had 12 points for the Rangers (7-7, 6-4 MVC 2).

HAVERHILL — For 16 minutes last night, the Division 2 Whittier girls looked like a team that was sluggish and a bit overmatched.

Considering it was playing its fifth game in as many nights and were facing a Division 1 opponent in Methuen, it was understandable.

Methuen High's Cam Kelley, Mike Capomaccio, Eric Lacroix and Stephen Lilja finished in fifth place in the 1,600 sprint medley at the McIntyre Relays with a time of 3:40.79 to set a new school record in the event. 

Jarvis Castro and Kevin Higgins played excellent defense and combined for seven points to help lead Methuen to a 58-47 victory over Dracut. Michael Gorman added 10 assists for Methuen. 

NORTH CHELMSFORD — Wrestling might be as individual a sport as there is, but the 50 or so beaming Lawrence wrestlers posing for a team picture yesterday afternoon sure did look like an ecstatic team.

Rachel Mattison placed third in the all-around at the MVC/DCL meet, at Acton-Boxboro.  The Andover High senior was also honored as the Senior Gymnast of the Night.
