Olivia Thomas-Roy had 27 assists and 16 service points and Olivia Hall added 13 kills and 3 aces as Central Catholic volleyball whipped Marblehead, 3-0, in the Division 1 North first round.

NORTH ANDOVER - We're only a week into the regular season, and Marblehead coach Jim Rudloff already has had a carousel at quarterback.

But with Joshua Robertson - the team's fourth-string QB when training camp started - under center Friday evening against defending Division 2 state champ North Andover, the Magicians were able to work some magic.

Lexi Swartz and Lexi River both scored twice to pace North Andover to a 5-1 season-opening field hockey victory over Marblehead. Caitlin Panos had a pair of assists for the Knights.

A goal with 19 seconds remaining in the contest pushed Marblehead past Central Catholic, 11-10, in the Division 1 North girls lacrosse quarterfinals. Central ends its season with a 14-6 record.

Trailing 4-3 at the half, Ali Ferullo's five-goal performance led North Andover to an 11-5 win over Marblehead. The onslaught gave Ferullo goal number 100 and 101 for her career, as the Knights end their regular season 15-5.

Nyah Mazzone rocketed her 100th career hit to help Methuen open its season with a 5-3 win over Marblehead. The Rangers recorded seven hits off Marblehead pitcher Charlotte Plakens, who's committed to Bentley.

The No. 11 Pentucket boys hockey team got off to a hot start in its Division 2 first round game with goals from Cam Martin and Jack Queenan in the first period. But the Sachems couldn't keep up with No. 6 Marblehead, eventually falling 5-2 to end their season 11-9-1 overall.

Coming off a loss on Friday, the Masconomet girls hockey co-op bounced back with a huge 6-0 win over Marblehead. Isabel Hulse and Abby Gendron each had five points, with Hulse scoring a goal with four assists and Gendron scoring twice with three assists, and Molly Elmore recorded 21 saves in the shutout.

Tyler Knox had three first-period pins to remain unbeaten and pace Pentucket to two wins and a tie in a quad-meet. Also, Chris Legacy, Nic Williamson and Korey Scheffen were perfect on the day with two pins as the Sachems improved to 8-2-1.

No. 10 Central Catholic volleyball swept No. 7 Marblehead in D1 North opening round play. Kills: Sarah Janco led with 14 kills while 

Rachel Hyatt had 28 assists.
