Since he plays at Pingree, on the private school stage, senior Billy Nickerson of Middleton may be the best kept secret in local soccer. The four-year starter has 53 career goals, including 16-2-18 numbers this season, and is Pingree's most prolific scorer in Coach Eric Olson's 13 years, as well as the quickest player Olson has had.
"Billy scores almost all of his goals from a quick move. He's not a big dribbler, but is extraordinarily quick. He has a great vertical leap and an amazing shot. He also does an amazingly good job on free kicks and bending the ball around the wall," Olson said.
Nickerson has bright red hair and stands out in a crowd. He also stands out on the field.
He's scored 16 of the team's 25 goals and accounted for eight winning goals in 10 victories. He's recorded three goals on free kicks.
"He's also a sportsman," the coach said. "He's one of those kids who will never say something bad to an opposing player."
