When asked if she was intimidated by competing in her first Meet of Champions, Sanborn freshman Kristina Allard firmly dismissed the notion.

“No,” she said. “I wasn’t overwhelmed. I felt great.”

Her performance backed that up in a big way.

Allard took second in the 100 and 400 — run in less than half an hour — and added an eighth in the 200 for good measure on Saturday.

Her 57.24 in the 400 now ranks fifth in Eagle-Tribune area history.

She ran a 12.61 in the 100 — tied for 10th best in Eagle-Tribune history.

“It’s was amazing,” said Allard. “I faced so much great competition. Coming in as a freshman and running two PRs was great. I’ve run in a lot of big races, so I was very confident. I feel great about getting two seconds. It was a great experience for me. There are a few blisters on my feet, but I feel great.”

Rojco thrilled by relay

Salem star Katya Rojco took second in the 300 hurdles, but there was another topic on her mind after the meet.

“Our 4x400 was amazing!” she said. “My mind was blown.”

Running out of an unseeded heat, the Blue Devils earned a surprising fifth in 4:12.43. Rojco, the anchor, was joined by Silvia Caddell, Emily MacIver and Leeza Vazquez.

“We were seeded 11th and finished fifth,” said Rojco. “Now we are on to New Englands. I had no idea we could run that fast, but I’m glad we did. It felt like a special race. Everyone ran amazing”

For the second season in a row, Rojco also placed second in the 300 hurdles, running a 47.71.

“It was a good day,” she said. “It’s exciting to get the silver medal again.”
