An inexperienced but talented Lawrence High trio pulled a stunner and won the North Sectional team decathlon title.
The Lancers totalled 15,560 points to beat out runner-up Central Catholic (15,377).
The championship trio included junior Alex Suarez (6th, 5,413 points), junior Brian Perez (10th, 5,140) and senior Niko Baez (11th, 5,007).
Coach Bill Meuse said, "Alex and Brian, it was their first time doing it (multi-event competitions). Niko placed sixth at the recent EMass. Division 1 pentathlon. I thought we'd finish in the top 3-4. This is great for our team team. We're not just sprinters and jumpers any more. We're full athletes now."
Central Catholic's Greg Desrosiers continued his multi-event success by taking second in the field of 78. He scored 5,914 points, just behind Jason Brumfield of St. Mary's in Lynn, who scored 5,927. In the final event, Desrosiers beat Brumfield handily in the 1,500 meters (4:50.87 to 5:04.83) but it wasn't quite enough.
