BOXFORD — As stellar as Masconomet has been, one achievement has evaded them for the majority of the season: playing a full 50 minutes of mistake-free lacrosse.

Fortunately, the Chieftains picked the perfect time to cross this elusive goal off their list.

Masconomet defeated former Cape Ann League archrival North Andover, 8-6, in their Division 1 North first-round clash. Nicole Amyouny led the scoring charge with three goals for No. 7 Masco.

North Andover finished at 11-10.

The score remained tied at 2-2 for much of the first half, but Masco strung together a dominant 20-plus minutes, outscoring the 10th-seeded Scarlet Knights, 5-1.

As usual, Jordyn Tveter elevated herself during the run with two goals and an assist.

North Andover surged in the final 13 minutes to try and keep its season alive. The Knights scored three goals to cut Masco’s lead to 7-6 with 1:45 remaining.

But Chieftains freshman Emma Flynn quickly scored to put the match on ice.

It was long awaited payback for Masco as the Knights won or shared the Cape Ann League title its final six years in the Cape Ann League (2007-12) before moving to the larger Merrimack Valley Conference.

North Andover coach Meredith Prior wasn’t down after the loss.

She said, “I’m really proud of how our girls fought. We talked about fighting, going out there and giving 150 percent the rest of the way.

“A couple of balls bounced their way and a couple of balls didn’t bounce our way, but that’s how it goes in sports. I’m proud of how they fought all game until the very end.”

She had high praise for her sophomore goalie, Bella Morton.

“You have to give credit to Bella credit for the saves she made today, they were awesome,” said North Andover’s 5th-year head coach.
