MARLBORO — Assabet Valley scored on its first drive of the game and never trailed Friday night in a 26-12 victory over Greater Lawrence in the state Vocational Bowl Large division playoff semifinals.
Assabet Valley, led by quarterback Justin Phillips, who through for two TDs and passed for another, led 12-0 after the first quarter and were in command most of the game.
The Reggies (6-5) narrowed the score a bit at halftime, making it 20-6, when Ader Mezidor scored on a 19-yard run.
But Assabet Valley (8-3) controlled the ball much of the third quarter and then took total command when it took a 26-6 lead early in the fourth. Greater Lawrence scored again with 47 seconds left when Donnie Croteau scored on a 5-yard pass from Jose Caceres.
Caceres had a good game in the second half and was 8 of 13 through the air for 180 yards. David White led the ground game with 53 yards in seven attempts. Michelette Vargas, White and Malib Pastrana had strong games defensively.
The Reggies will now gear for their Thanksgiving game at Whittier (6-4) next Thursday.
