No. 6 Windham upset No. 3 Bishop Guertin to advance to the state volleyball quarterfinals Thursday.
The 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 decision was an upset by seeds and by regular-season matchups. The Cardinals beat the Jaguars 3-0 on May 1.
But Windham coach Matt Bynon noted, "Nick Kasprzak and Luke Leonard really stepped up and carried us in the middle."
Each had 10 kills and Kasprzak added three blocks. The Reas, Lyle and Neil, also came up big.
Next up is a bigger challenge: Timberlane.
Bynon said, "It's a rematch of last year's final four (won by Timberlane). Anything can happen in the final four."
