BOSTON — Andover junior Devin Connell finished just off his own school record with a 2:31.69 for second in the 1,000 meters at the New England Championsips.
The talented junior was nipped by Stephen (no relation) Tyler of Weston, Conn., who won in 2:31.53.
Salem senior Katy Nippert, on the heels of being named Moynihan Lumber Scholar-Athlete of the Month, soared 17-7.5 for fifth in the long jump. North Reading's Juliette Nadeau was the final placer, taking eighth on a tie-breaker with a 17-6 jump.
Pinkerton's Britney Johnson just missed placing but ran a 5:04.04 for ninth in the mile. That sliced a nearly eight-tenths of a second off her career best and places her ninth all-time in the area.
Andover's 4x400 team of Hannah Lansberry, Emma Joel, Julianna Kennedy and Delia Barbanti placed 10th in 4:03.41, good for 24th on our region's all-time list.
There were some strong efforts in the girls' 55-meter hurdles with Pinkerton's Maria Virga ninth (8.71), Londonderry's Lexy Freiere 10th (8.76) and Lawrence record-setter RosaLinda Rosario 13th in 8.83.
