With Phillips leading by a single score late in the fourth quarter, Andover's Jack Belluche pinned Kent School deep in their own territory with a perfect punt, then clinched the victory with his second interception of the day in the final seconds as the Big Blue held on for a 14-11 victory.
"Our defense won the game or us tonight," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. "Three times we turned them away in our zone in the fourth quarter. Jack and the guys really stepped up. They played an excellent game."
It was a huge day for Belluche, who made the two picks. fellow Andoverite John Simourian added another interception and made seven tackles.
"Jack had a very big game at defensive back and punting," said Modeste. "Simourian also came up big. They really led us."
Phillips did all of their scoring in the first half. Robert Jones ran for a 1-yard score, then as time expired before halftime found Haldall Lundevall for a 36-yard score.
Then it was up to the defense, that allowed just the one late score.
Ben Anthony led the Big Blue with eight tackles and rushed for a team-high 50 yards.
"Last week everyone was talking about our offense because we put up so many points (49)," said Modeste. "But this week our defense stepped up and had a huge day."
