The margin of victory was smaller than usual, but the ultimate result was the same Saturday at the Timberlane Invitational.

The host Owls placed first for the 24th time in the last 25 years. In the 27 years of the tournament. the Owls failed to take first only three times and each time they were runners-up.

In yesterday's tournament, Timberlane came in first with 191 1/2 points to outdistance Londonderry (179) in the 14-team field. Southington, Conn., and Reading dropped out because of the weather.

This was the second time this year that the Owls finished ahead of Londonderry, also having done it at the Lowell Holiday Tournament. But the two teams will also square off Feb. 4 in a huge dual meet at Timberlane and then at the Division 1 state meet, the Meet of Champions and — most likely — New England.

Depth was the difference Saturday. Londonderry, with four champions, had one more than the Owls, but Timberlane had 11 placers overall, which was two more than the Lancers.

Timberlane's champions were Derek Bohle (132), Ryan Peters (145) and Brian Lonergan (182), all of whom dominated. Bohle had a 32 second pin in the finals and earlier a 22-second pin,, Peters had faklls of 31 and 26 seconds before an 18-0 technical fall in the finals while Lonergan had three first-period pins.

Among the non-champions, Cam Altobelli was third in a tough 152-pound weight class, Dan Scalzo was third at 138 and sophomore Ryan Cole was a surprising second at 220.

"We got another great effort from Bohle, Peters and Lonergan as all three dominated their weights scoring big points for us," said Timberlane coach Barry Chooljian. "Sometimes I think we overlook how important they are for us.

" We have been emphasizing to our kids that the consolation medals are very important and they came through today in that manor.  The team felt they could of wrestled better and I agree."

Champions for Londonderry were Ryan Cabezas (126), Jean-Luc Lemieux (138), Kyle Byrd (160) and Richard Bilodeau (195). Cabezas had three pins, including in 49 seconds in the finals, and Lemieux was named the tournament Outstanding Wresler.
