Brendan Varney ran a personal-best 1:28.99 to win the 600 and pace North Andover to a 51-35 win over Masconomet, earning the 9-1 Knights the Cape Ann League title. Not to be lost in the euphoria of Varney's win was an exciting second-place finish from Kyle Quinn, who made a furious dash at the end.
"That was the turning point of the meet," said head coach Steve Nugent, whose team was perfact in the CAL. Stephen O'Grady won the shot put with a personal best 45-2 3/4.
