LAWRENCE — The records coming in looked pretty even, both Lawrence and Chelmsford at 2-1.

The performances on the Fitzgerald Field turf here at Veterans Stadium told a shockingly different story.

Chelmsford, rated No. 9 in the state, dominated from the opening snap, running the Lancers off their home field on Homecoming Night, 42-16.

"They beat us off the line, they beat us in every area of the game," said Lancer coach Mike Yameen. "We need to find ourselves now, before the season is lost. I'm very disappointed at the way we're playing. I don't think we're a 42-16 team to anyone."

An 8-0 game grew into a blowout with a 21-0 Chelmsford barrage in the second quarter. The back-breaker came with no time left in the half and the Lions on the Lawrence 44.

Chelmsford's play call, a flanker option pass broke down, but Eric Van Gelder reversed his field and pitched it back to the quarterback, Colby Emanouil.

The senior then raced from the left hash marks across the field right, beating all 11 Lancers to the end zone, basically ending it at halftime, 29-0.

Lawrence picked up a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter against the Chelmsford reserves with Joel Rodriguez hauling in a 32-yard Nate Baez pass and Jiovanny Vazquez running a kick back 96 yards to paydirt.

Rodriguez provided one of the few Lancer bright spots, bouncing back from a tough night at Lowell to catch four passes for 102 yards.

Otherwise, Lawrence was held to just 76 offensive yards with three interceptions.

"We're not a good team, bottom line, we're not playing the way we did that first week vs. Reading," said Yameen. "We're just not fast. We're typically a fast team, but we're not getting better. We're not progressing."

Lawrence needs to change the momentum in a hurry. The Lancers host another MVC large foe, Andover, on Thursday night at Veterans Stadium.
