BOSTON — With Andover grinding through a rugged closing stretch, Joe Bramanti has thoughts on so much more.

Still, the Andover High senior found a second or two to appreciate the accomplishment.

"It means a lot to be the sixth person in Andover High history to do it," said Bramanti, whose eclipsing the 1,000-point scoring barrier was one of the few Warrior highlights in last night's Comcast Tournament semifinal loss to St. John's Prep.

"It feels good to be on that list with some great players. I would have liked to do it with a win, maybe even at home, but it's still special."

Bramanti finished with 19 points in the foul-filled affair and now sits at 1,001 for his storied career.

"The 1,000 points says an awful lot about the career he's had," said Andover High coach David Fazio. "This is like an ice cream for him, but there's more out there. We'll see now if he's happy with that or wants an ice cream sundae or something more."

Overall, the night belonged to the incomparable Pat Connaughton and the Prep from the opening tip.

Now 13-5, the Warriors hit the floor still a bit emotionally groggy from Thursday's heartbreaking loss to Central Catholic.

St. Johns, rated No. 1 in Eastern Mass., pounced. The Notre Dame-bound Connaughton had 15 in a 30-5 opening quarter.

"We certainly didn't have our A game and they had a lot to do with it, that's a great team," said Fazio.

Andover spend the rest of the night playing catchup the hard way, with four-fifths of the starting lineup, including Bramanti, in foul trouble.

"They were in the penalty three minutes in, so that made it really tough," said Fazio.

The Warriors never got it back to single figures, threatening a couple times, but there were a couple positives around which Fazio and his crew could rally.

First was the inspired work from James Costello, who sliced through the Prep in an 18-point, two-dunk night.

"James Costello was awesome, and good for him," said Fazio. "That could be a great building block for him."
Craig Luschenat added 14 points, but played under 15 minutes to foul issues.

Bramanti says the Warriors will fight through this stretch and hopefully get rewarded.

"I definitely think these last 4-5 games being so tough is really preparing us for the tournament well," said Bramanti. "Hopefully we get one home game and win, then go on the road and do some damage."
