Salem falls short

 

Salem recorded four pins but fell short of Concord, 46-36, in the Division 1 semifinals. Among those with wins for the Blue Devils (8-2) were Cam Monahan (120), Ryan O'Rourke (126), George Boudreau (138) and Matteo Mustapha (145), all of whom finished the season undefeated.

Blue Devils roll

 

Ryan O'Rourke, George Boudreau and Matteo Mustapha all remained unbeaten with pins as Salem crushed Londonderry 60-15 in the quarterfinals of the Division 1 dual-meet state tournament. The Blue Devils will face Concord in the semifinals Wednesday.

Boudreau in top form

 

George Boudreau scored a major decision over reurning all-state finalist Connor McDonald at 138 pounds as Salem tripped up Bishop Guertin, 41-30. Mike Williams rallied for a pin at 160 pounds to seal the win.

Freshman Jonathan Belkus picked up his first career win as Salem whipped Keene 66-12 to improve to 5-1.

SALEM — Others may do it, but Timberlane junior Bryce Parker just won't.

"I don't like comparing myself to (twin brother) Konrad," said Bryce after Wednesday night's 51-19 beatdown of host Salem. "We do a little trash talking (about who is better) but not that much."

Salem in stunner

 

Salem's wrestling team pulled a stunner, edging perennial powerhouse Concord 42-39, its first win over the Crimson Tide since 2003. Phil Giordano (113), Matteo Mustapha (145) and Matt Breton (182) all had pins for the Blue Devils. "A great win for our program," said coach Nick Eddy.

Blue Devils roll

 

On Senior Day, freshman Cam Monahan had a second period pin at 126 pounds and junior Jack Dailey got his first career win with a first period pin at 220 pounds to highlight Salem's 51-27 defeat of Plymouth. Also, Mike Williams rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win in overtime, 11-9, at 160.
