Hillies win crown

 

Haverhill continued knocking off challenges Saturday.

Unbeaten in dual meets, the Hillies captured their second tournament in two weeks with an impressive performance, placing first in the Capital Classic in Concord, N.H. The Hillies won with 171.5 points, just one ahead of Rhode Island power Bishop Hendricken.

Astros end with flurry

Windham 145-pounder Ty Ham pinned his opponent to give the Jaguars a 30-24 lead over Pinkerton, but the Astros won the final five matches between 152-195 pounds — all by pins — to earn a 54-30 win. Sterling McLaughlin had the most impressive pin of the run at 182, pinning his opponent in 42 seconds.

Pinkerton 3, Springfield Central 0, Windham 0

 

Pinkerton certainly isn't avoiding any of the toughest teams around. The Astros went 1-3 at the Springfield Duals, losing to the No. 1 (Springfield Central) and No. 2 (Shawsheen) teams in Mass. and Vermont power Mount Anthony, the latter by only three points. Sterling McLaughlin was 4-0 at 182 for the Astros, who were without standout Robbie Fahey,  and Walker Stinson was 3-0 at 126.

Timberlane takes title

 

Timberlane ventured out to an old tournament and came in first at the John Gorman Invitational in Cumberland, R.I.

The Owls used their depth, placing eight wrestlers, to pile up 199 points, eight more than runner-up Bristol East. Pinkerton came in fourth with 131 1/2 points and North Andover came in 12th.

Astros take 2nd

 

Despite missing a couple of key wrestlers, Pinkerton finished second to the host team at the Mount Anthony Invitational. Dominic Robinson (113), Sterling McLaughlin (182) and Nick Fortunata (285) all came in first and Walker Stinson (126), David Hammond (132) and Jack Mackiernan (152) were runners-up.

Astros deliver with depth

 

DERRY — Within a week, Pinkerton's wrestling team showed its strength on two fronts.

Last week, the Astros showed its prowess as a tournament team by placing five wrestlers at the rugged Lowell Holiday Tournament and Wednesday night it disposed of a good Salem team, 51-25.

Timberlane in 3rd at Lowell

 

LOWELL — Timberlane's wrestling team stood in third place Thursday after the first day of the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.

Surprising Springfield Central stands in first with 105 points followed by Concord (95), Timberlane (93.5) and Mount Anthony (90). Windham is in seventh and Pinkerton is eighth. The Astros, however, have the most quarterfinalists of any team with six.

Timberlane makes it 166 in a row

 

The streak lives on.

And, if the Timberlane wrestling team keeps competing like it did Wednesday night, it may last through another season.

The unbeaten Owls (7-0) more than survived what was expected to be a stern test, whipping Pinkerton 40-19 for their 166th straight win in New Hampshire.
