Clippers drop Vikings

With the game scoreless at halftime, Newburyport and Triton traded goals before the Clippers scored the winner with 3:28 remaining to win 2-1 and deal a major blow to the Vikings' tournament hopes. Alex Sirek scored the winner off an assist from Callie Beauparlant, and Newburyport initially took the lead on a Shannon Brennan goal. Newburyport is now 10-6-1 on the season, while Triton is 7-7-1 and must now either win or tie its last game against North Reading on Wednesday to qualify for the postseason.

Clippers clinch

The Newburyport field hockey team punched its ticket to the postseason on Thursday, beating North Reading 2-0 on the strength of two first-half goals by Callie Beauparlant. Newburyport is now 9-6-1 on the season and will face Triton on Monday.

Fourth straight

The Newburyport field hockey team won its fourth straight game, beating rival Triton 2-1 on a soggy day in Newburyport. Meghan Winn scored in the first half off a corner by Ashley Ventura, and Alex Sirek scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the second half. Triton got a goal back by Kelly Sharkey but Newburyport was able to hold on.

The Newburyport field hockey team won its third game in a row, beating Amesbury 3-0. Sophie Page, Mikayla Vincent and Maggie Pons scored the goals for the Clippers, who are now 5-3 on the year.

Clippers fall to Hornets

Newburyport got a second-half goal from Callie Beauparlant off a corner, but it wasn't enough to break Manchester Essex's long-running unbeaten streak within the Cape Ann League, as the Hornets pulled out the 2-1 win. Gabby Taynor made six saves in net for Newburyport, while Manchester Essex's goals came courtesy of Bridget Twombly and Christina Bullock. Manchester Essex (2-0-1) is now 51-0-6 in its last 57 CAL games dating back to 2014. Newburyport is now 2-3 and will face Lynnfield on Thursday.
