Baxter stands tall

It's been a tough season for Amesbury hockey, but not because of goalie Charlie Baxter. The Amesbury netminder made 32 saves in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to North Reading, holding the Hornets scoreless over the final two periods. Cam Chambers scored Amesbury's goal in the second period, assisted by Nolan McGrath.

Freshman Richie Hardy tallied twice but it wasn't enough to stop the soaring Hortnets, who beat Pentucket 5-2. Connor Melone made 24 saves and allowed four goals, with the final Hornet score coming on an empty net.

Hot streak continues

Triton hockey kept up its hot streak on Saturday, beating North Reading 5-2. Sam Rennick had two goals and an assist, and Kyle McKendry, T.J. Regan and Brady Lindholm had the other goals. Triton is now 4-6-1 on the season and climbing back into state tournament contention.

Newburyport hockey started the 2017-18 season off on the right foot, shutting out North Reading 2-0 on Wednesday. Owen Bradbury had a goal and an assist, Robby Johnston had the other goal, and Ken Hodge made 20 saves in the shutout.
