Can't hide from Cabinta

Plymouth tried to hide Alex Hamel, the No. 3 ranked wrestler in the state at 160 pounds, from Salem's Tristen Cabinta, the No. 1 ranked 160-pounder, by bumping him up a weight class. But Cabinta followed him up to 170 and earned a pin, and James Gibney beat Plymouth's backup at 160 to help the Blue Devils earn a 45-29 win. Salem also beat Winnacunnet easily to go 2-0 for the day.

No. 2 Cabinta beats No. 1

Salem's Tristen Cabinta earned a huge win. Cabinta, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the state at 160 pounds, took down No. 1 Kyle Gora of Alvirne by a 3-1 decision. His win helped the Blue Devils, who had five other pins on the day, earn a 38-24 meet win and improve to 11-5.

Sullivan soars

In his second career match, freshman Andrew Sullivan had an impressive pin to help Salem earn a dual-meet victory over Keene. Matt Adams, Ryan Burke, Connor Chute, Tristen Cabinta and Beau Dillon also had pins for the Blue Devils (10-5).

Manick, O'Connell still unbeaten

 

METHUEN — Methuen senior Travis Manick gave notice to the rest of New England Saturday afternoon.

He proved that he's ready for all comers.

Facing unbeaten Sampson Wilkins of Mount Anthony, who entered the 195-pound Methuen Invitational finals match undefeated and was champion at the Lowell Holiday Tournament while being ranked No. 3 in New England, Manick was up to the challenge.

Justin Berube had a big 3-1 decision over Salem standout Tristen Cabinta at 160 to highlight Timberlane's 57-15 romp over the Blue Devils, putting the Owls' instate win streak at 155. For Salem, Beau Dillon had an impressive 3-2 decision over Dylan Tremblay at 195.
