NORTH ANDOVER — Yesterday went from bad to worse for Central Catholic hockey.

First, the Raiders fell to Hingham 2-1 in their Super 8 third round game at Merrimack College.

Then, three hours later down 495 at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Malden Catholic beat Weymouth 5-4.

Through one period, Central Catholic and Weymouth are tried 1-1 in Super 8 play. The Raiders' Nick Leonard tied the game with 2:23 left in the first on a penalty shot goal after being tripped going to the net.

NORTH ANDOVER — The second the clock expired, Central Catholic goalie Kyle Williams was mobbed in celebration by the entire Raiders team.

“Kyle was phenomenal tonight,” said Central co-captain Nick Leonard. “He saved us. I don’t think we could have won without him back there.”

After two periods, Central Catholic and Malden Catholic are tied 2-2 in their Super 8 showdown. Sophomore Mike Kelleher and freshman Alex Lester have done the scoring for the Raiders.

NORTH ANDOVER — Fans, players and coaches jumped to their feet, trying to see if the puck had been knocked past the goal line before time expired.

“I didn’t know where the puck was,” said Central Catholic co-captain Nick Leonard. “I was just battling to try to put it home. Everyone was battling in front. But we just ran out of time at the end.”

BILLERICA — Lloyd Hayes couldn’t contain his joy, skating nearly the length of the ice to the Central Catholic fan section and throwing his body up against the glass in celebration.

 A late season loss to Andover hurt Central Catholic's Super 8 chances but the Raiders may have thrust themselves back in the mix by upsetting No. 4 Weymouth last night.

Trailing 3-2 after two periods, the Raiders owned the final period en route to a 6-3 win. The loss was just the second of the season for the Wildcats (16-2-2).
