Two Hillies in semis

 

Haverhill's Ben Davoli (113) and Edgar Feliciano (132) will both be competing this morning at Methuen in the Division 1 state meet semifinals after having won their quarterfinal matches Friday. Teammate Jake Nicolosi lost his first nmatch of the year, 9-4 to Xaverian's Michael Bobola, but is still alive in the consolation as is Steven Wise and Jay Levy.

Iwanicki, Prep finish on top

 

METHUEN — St. John's Prep's Rawson Iwanicki of Andover is one very confident freshman, so much so that some might call him cocky.

But that would be a mistake because Iwanicki, as he showed Saturday at the Division 1 North sectional, has good reason to be confident. By defeating Lawrence's talented John Vasquez 8-3 in the finals, Iwanicki improved to his season record to a sterling 45-2.

Lancers win Hillie duals

 

HAVERHILL — For better and worse, junior Alex Chhy is what Lawrence wrestling is all about.

A first-year wrestler, like so many of the Lancers, Chhy has gradually progressed since the season started. And Saturday he took it another step forward with two key wins, the final being a pin in the last match of the day to clinch a 42-33 win over Andover in the finals of the Hillie Duals.

Central 3rd at Concord

 

Mike Glynn had all pins, the final two in the first period, to remain unbeaten on the year to pace Central Catholic to third place at the Capital Classic in Concord. Finishing second for the Raiders were Jimmy Glynn (106) and Matt Shaw (145).

Nicolosi's milestone

 

Haverhill's wrestling team thumped improved Lowell 50-30 as Jake Nicolosi tied the school record for career wins ar 150. Joe Meehan and Dan Toothaker had impressive pins at 195 and 220 for the Hillies.

Owls,Hillies deliver

 

It was an outstanding day for Timberlane Saturday at its own invitational, but it was pretty darn good for Haverhill as well.

The host Owls had a whopping 11 finalists in the 16-team field and placed first with 290 points, to finish far ahead of runner-up Franklin (176), which was recently ranked the No. 1 team in Massachusetts.

Young Lawrence club steps up

 

Lawrence arguably had its best day of the season, winning a quad-meet  at Billerica with one of the wins a 37-35 shocker over Central Catholic.

John Vasquez was unbeaten on the day and decided the Central meet with a 3-1 decision over Nate Vachon in the last match of the day while sophomore heavyweight Joel Baretto had a pin in the last match of the day to seal a 41-35 win over Billerica.Jaycob Zapata wrestled well and was 3-0 at 113.op

Wise prevails

 

Haverhill's Steven Wise had an impressive 8-7 decision over Andover's  Kelvin Davila at 152 but there were few other highlights for the Hillies, who fell to surging Andover, 42-20. Elias Maita had a 52-second at 160 to remain unbeaten for the Warriors (9-1).

Levy, Wise stand out

 

Haverhill had a rough day at the West Springfield duals, only winning one meet, but it was a good day for Steven Wise (152) and heavyweight Jay Levy, both of whom had four pins. Levy showed no ill effects of a week of sickness.
