Manzi leads Brooks to comeback win

Brooks, Lawrence Academy

Michael Wolfendale completed 6 of 8 passes for 137 yards and two scores and scored on a 1-yard run as Brooks ripped Lawrence Academy, 40-18, to improve to 3-4. John Manzi carried 10 times for 99 yards and scored twice and John Fritz scored on an 89-yard kickoff return. Defensively Fritz added seven tackles for Brooks, which improved to 3-4.

Wolfendale, Brooks rally for big win

John Manzi ran for a 5-yard touchdown with seven minutes remaining in the game, and the Brooks defense delivered a pair of stops in the final moments to earn a 21-14 victory over St. George's on Saturday. 

"The guys did a great job of playing four quarters," said coach Pat Foley. "We settled down in the second half offensively, and we were able to hit for a few big plays. Our line opened some huge holes on that winning drive."

The Green and White trailed 14-7 early in the fourth quarter, but tied it up when Methuen's Michael Wolfendale connected with John Fritz for a 55-yard touchdown. 

The Brooks defense then held, and Manzi scored to give his squad the lead for good. 

Wolfendale (106 passing yards, team-high 30 rushing yards) gave Brooks a 7-0 lead at halftime with a 1-yard TD in the second quarter. 

Rayden Waweru led the winning defense with two interceptions. Manzi, Matt Costello and Fritz Wright each made a team-best eight tackles.

"Rayden's two interceptions were huge," said Foley. "They gave us extra possessions. It was great to get a win."

Next up, Brooks (2-4) will host Lawrence Academy (1-5) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Brooks blanked by strong Middlesex team

NORTH ANDOVER — It was a tough day for the Brooks football team.

Visiting Middlesex School held the hosts to just 98 total yards of offense, and cruised to an eventual 26-0 blowout win. Brooks falls to 1-4 with the setback.

Brooks falls short to Rivers

WESTON — Brooks led 3-0 heading into the fourth quarter, but could not hold on and fell to Rivers 6-3 on Saturday.

Kicker Brian Barker-Morrill gave the Green and White the lead when he booted a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter.

QB Michael Wolfendale led Brooks with 98 passing yards. He connected with Darryl Yepdo three times for 54 yards.

Brooks falls to Governor's

BYFIELD — Brooks fell behind by 27 points in the first quarter, on the way to losing to Governor's Academy 34-13 on Saturday.
 
Brooks (1-2) broke up the shutout in the third, when John Manzi scored a 1-yard touchdown. The Green-and-White added another score in the fourth, on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Michael Wolfendale to to Connor Lang.

Defense leads Brooks to first win

Rayden Waweru led a defense that allowed just 65 total yards for the game, and gave Brooks the lead with a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Green and White beat Groton 20-7 on Saturday. 

Brooks added its other two touchdowns in the third quarter. John Manzi scored a 3-yard touchdown and QB Michael Wolfendale ran a QB sneak for a 1-yard TD. 

Manzi also turned in a game-high nine tackles. Right behind him were Matt Costantino (six tackles, sack), John Fritz (six tackles) and Olu Oladitan (five tackles / 1.5 sacks). 

Brooks (1-1) next travels to Governor's Academy on Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

Brooks falls in season-opener

NORTH ANDOVER — John Manzi made a team-high 12 tackles, but Brooks dropped its season-opener to Milton Academy 37-0 on Saturday.
