Holland’s relief effort keeps Knights perfect in Super 8

HAVERHILL - The eighth and final selection to the Super 8 baseball tournament is sitting as pretty as possible following the opening two rounds.

A pair of eighth-inning runs and an outstanding eight innings of Brendan Holland relief kept North Andover perfect in the tourney with a 7-5 victory Saturday afternoon over fifth-seeded BC High at Trinity Stadium. The Knights (18-4) will play the other remaining unbeaten team, third-seeded Walpole (18-4), in the winner's bracket semifinal. A date and time for that game has yet to be announced.

Six in the 5th

Trailing by two runs at the time, Andover struck for six runs in the top of the fifth to break open the game in its eventual 7-4 win over rival North Andover. Patrick McConnell (2 for 4, 2 RBIs) and Henry Grebe each had big hits in the inning, as the Warriors end their regular season 11-9.

Jake McElroy launched two home runs, also had a triple and finished 4 for 5 at the plate with four RBIs to power North Andover over Haverhill, 11-1. Freshman Ryan Griffin picked up his first win on the mound for the Knights (10-1), who qualified for the state tournament.
