Knox remains sharp

 

Pentucket eighth grader Tyler Knox won all three matches as Pentucket/Newburyport went 2-1 at the TravisYell duals. One of Knox's wins was a 9-4 decision over Winchester's Scott Downs, who was a Lowell Holiday Tournament finalist. Jason Young had three pins for the Sachems (16-6).

Dish served cold

Triton's Robi Ullah got his revenge against Peabody's Jack Murphy on Thursday, beating the fellow 106-pounder 17-12 after losing to him 13-12 in the CAL/NEC Open. The Vikings also got a big 8-6 win from Sam Orender at 182 pounds, and Steve Particelli fought back from a 5-0 deficit to win his 195-pound match 7-5 in overtime. The end result was another big win for Triton wrestling, who beat Peabody 48-12.

Vikings keep winning

Triton wrestling picked up one of its most impressive wins of the season, beating a good Marblehead-Swampscott team 54-15. Seniors Jared Durkin and Brandon Eppa each pinned their opponents, and Zander Rolfe bumped up to 120 pounds to pin his opponent in the second round. Sam Orender picked up the biggest win of the day, pinning his opponent in just 25 seconds. Triton is now 16-2 and will face Peabody tonight at 7 p.m.

Pentucket 8th grader Tyler Knox continued his 106-pound rivalry with Salem's Calvin Dalton Saturday and this time he won decisively, 13-6, to claim first at the Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference meet.

Triton wins CAL, Ostrander wins 100th

Triton wrestling clinched its second Cape Ann League title in three years, beating Pentucket 49-27 to improve to 15-2 on the year and 4-0 in the CAL. Sophomore Anthony Ostrander beat Kory Scheffen for his 100th career win, becoming just the third sophomore in school history to reach 100 career wins as a sophomore (Brandon Hayes, Luke Boyle). Josh Stevens also won a huge 8-7 win, and Jeremy Duford won a battle 15-7.

Vikings top defending champs

Facing down the defending Division 3 state champions, Triton wrestling went to work and prevailed over Melrose 45-34. Jared Durkin and Sam Orender each pinned their opponents in barely a half minute, and Anthony Ostrander won a tough 5-3 decision at 160 pounds. Triton (14-2) will now face Pentucket on Wednesday with a chance to clinch the Cape Ann League title.

Quick match

Triton wrestling didn't need long to beat Salem (MA), winning 18-5 after Salem only showed up with four wrestlers. Sam Orender took care of business even quicker, pinning his opponent at 182 pounds in just six seconds. With the win, Triton is now 13-2 and will face defending Division 3 champion Melrose on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Triton wrestling won two out of three at Saturday's quad meet, beating Josiah Quincy and Gloucester before losing to Brookline. Jeremy Duford and Jared Durkin each went 3-0 for the Vikings, who are now 12-2 on the year.

Triton takes three of four

Triton wrestling won three out of four meets at Saturday's super-quad at Wakefield High, beating Saugus, Gloucester and Everett while falling to Wakefield. Anthony Ostrander led the way with three pins, including a first-round pin of Wakefield sectional finalist Jake Goodchild, and Jeremy Duford, Jared Durkin and Spiros Markopoulos all had three wins as well.

Ostrander, Durkin go deep at Lowell Holidays

Triton's Anthony Ostrander and Jared Durkin had strong showings at the prestigious Lowell Holiday Tournament, going 4-2 and finishing in the top 12 out of 76 teams from all over New England. Others who won matches were Ethan Tremblay, Brandon Eppa, and Josh Stevens.
