Newburyport hockey picked up another road win on Monday, knocking off Cape Ann League rival Amesbury 3-1. Matt Babcock, Jacob Grossi-Hogg and Frank Kerney had the goals and Ken Hodge made 14 saves. With the win, Newburyport (7-1-4) now needs only three points to qualify for the postseason. The Clippers can clinch with either a win and a tie or two wins, and the next two games will be Wednesday against North Reading and Saturday against defending Division 1 state champion St. Mary's of Lynn.
Read More »After four wins in a row, the Newburyport boys hockey team played Masconomet to a 3-3 draw on Saturday. The Clippers charged back with three third period tallies, including the final goal with just 1:29 left in the game to earn the tie.
Masconomet got on the board first with 5:12 left in the first frame. With 9:21 to go in the third, the Chieftains extended it to a 2-0 lead. About 30 seconds later, Cole Spence found the net for the Clippers to cut the deficit in half for the first Clips goal of the day.
