Hillies fall to Westford

Haverhill girls soccer fell behind early and couldn't quite get back into the game, missing a few key opportunities while Westford capitalized on theirs en route to a 4-0 win in the Division 1 North quarterfinals. Hillie goalie Jessica Kramer made 12 saves in the loss, and Haverhill finishes its season 12-7-1.

29 girls play

Haverhill came in as the overwhelming favorite and that's the way it played out. The Hillies scored seven goals in about the first 20 minutes and hammered Chelsea, 12-0, in the Division 1 North girls soccer first round. Kylee Murphy, Missy Toney and Meggie Dellea all scored twice. The Hillies played a whopping 29 girls.

Now, it's old hat

Haverhill soccer hadn't beaten Andover since the rivalry began in 1994 through 2012. But now the Hillies have three wins over AHS (2013, 2015, yesterday 2-0). Sydney Owen and Amanda Van Cor scored and Jessica Kramer (4 saves notched the shutout. Tara Thompson assisted on both goals.

Hillies qualify

Jessica Kramer made three terrific saves to help Haverhill girls soccer shut out Methuen 1-0. Amanda Van Cor scored the lone goal on an assist by Sydney Owen, and with the win Haverhill has qualified for the state tournament for the seventh straight year.

Senior Celebration

Seniors had all the goals and all the assists for Central Catholic, which celebrated its Senior Night with a 6-1 win over Haverhill.  Ashley Raphael (2), Elayna Grillakis (2), Caitlin Regan and Sarah Freeman had the Raider goals. Haverhill hung tough, trailing just 2-1 until 18 minutes were left.

Murphy to Vancor

Haverhill trailed Pentucket 1-0 with eight minutes left but beat Pentucket, 2-1. Missy Toney scored first and with two minutes left Amanda Vancor finished a Kylee Murphy cross for the winner.

Five different players were involved in the scoring as the Haverhill girls soccer team won itst hird straight game, 3-0 over Melrose for the 100th career win for coach Fred Tarbox.

Budds' SportsCenter-caliber goal

Haverhill beat Methuen, 3-1, with a Meredith Budds goal leaving 11th-year Hillie coach Fred Tarbox almost speechless. 

He said, "It was one of the best high school goals I've ever seen. Amanda Van Cor (goal 2 assists), crossed to her, it was a bullet. She reached and dove on a header. It was unbelivable, awesome. Like something you see with professional soccer."

Immaculate deflection

With two minutes left in the first half, a deflected pass found it's way to the foot of Haverhill's Meredith Budds. The senior collected the ball, then dished it to Kylee Murphy who released a strike into the back of the net as the Hillies stunned North Andover, 1-0.
