MVC Day in Division 1 North

METHUEN — Haverhill’s super sophomores are now chiseled juniors and they proved it Saturday afternoon at the Division 1 North sectional.

Reece Millington breezed through his 145-pound weight class to win his first sectional while Luc Chretien was a repeat champion, dominating the 195-pound division.

Hillies rally

 

Haverhill's wrestling team rallied for a 43-33 victory over Masconomet to end its dual meet season with a 16-7 record. Heavyweight David Rizzotti had a pin at 1:23 to put the Hillies in the lead for the first time and Nick Tejada clinched the win with a pin at 106.

Millington stays hot

 

On the same week that his beloved grandfather passed away, Haverhill junior Reece Millington didn't let up. The Hillies' 145-pounder had two pins and a major decision as Haverhill won two of three meets, falling only to Westford. Millington is now 28-1 on the year with 21 pins.

Title for Hillies

 

Haverhill's wrestling team captured the MVC Division 2 title for the second straight year, beating Dracut 42-34. Freshman Rolando Corrasco clinched the win with a pin at 220 for the Hillies (13-6) and Orlando Rojas and Reece Millington had pins in 11 and 22 seconds respectively.

Haverhill's younger wrestlers continued to rise in a 46-32 victory over Tewksbury. Sophomore Matt Coyne had a pin at 5:19 and freshman Rolando Corrasco recorded an 18-second pin at 220.

Chretien comes back

 

Haverhill junior Luc Chretien had a disappointing performance at the Lowell Holiday Tournament, but he made up for it yesterday at the Chelmsford Tournament.

Chretien had two first period pins and then convincingly handled No. 1 seed Duncan Kepner of Chrlmsford in the finals, 11-5.

Londonderry in second

 

Londonderry, with five quarterfinalists, stands in second place after the first day of the George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament.

Defending champion Mt. Anthony, with eight quarterfinalists, leads with 124 points, followed by the Lancers at 108 with Springfield Central third at 101. Timberlane, with four quarterfinalists, is sixth with 88 points.

Haverhill takes third

 

Two out of three was a good ratio for Haverhill Saturday.

Both Reece Millington (145) and Luc Chretien (195) both won their weight classes to pace the Hillies to third place, a spot behind undermanned North Andover and trailing just powerful WInchester and Shawsheen.
