North Reading Hornets Softball '14

Sachems qualify

 

Pentucket's softball team scored seven runs in the fifth and then held on for a 10-9 upset of North Reading, qualifying the Sachems (10-8) for the tournament for the first time in three years. Tyler Feeney continued her hot hitting, going 4 for 4, scoring three runs and driving in two, and Maddie Binding was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman Cassidy Gaeta was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Hornets (15-4).

Home run parade

 

North Reading hit four home runs, including two by freshman Cassidy Gaeta, in a 15-1 romp over Manchester Essex. Jenn Castro and Kendra Butner also had homers and Julia Perrone threw a five-inning one-hitter.

Butner relief

 

Kendra Butner relieved in the top of the fifth to pick up the win and then capped off a 10-run bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer as North Reading (10-1) qualified for the tournament with a 13-9 victory over Rockport.

Pair of homers

 

Promising freshman Cassidy Gaeta and winning pitcher Kendra Butner both had home runs as North Reading, also taking advantage of 10 walks and several errors, outlasted Pentucket 11-8. Gaeta had four RBIs, one more than Tarah Reilly for the Hornets (11-1).

Julia Perrone and Cassidy Gaeta both hit three-run homeruns to lead North Reading over Georgetown 12-0. Sophie Warren also went deep, going back-to-back with Gaeta in the second.

Hornet rally

 

North Reading's softball team remained on a roll (7-1) thanks to two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and a run in the bottom of the ninth in a 6-5 victory over Masconomet. Tarah Reilly (3 for 3) had an RBI double for the game-winner and freshman Cassidy Gaeta had a two-run homer.
