Andover's Jess Kearns (22.33), Kerry Christopher (22.41), Sara Faugel (22.45) and Nicole Erickson (22.65) took placed 2-5 overall as the Golden Warriors ski team topped Manchester Essex 98.5-36.5

Despite the mild winter, the ski season got underway at the Bradford Ski Area for local girls yesterday and Andover made a dominating statement. The Warriors whipped both North Andover and Manchester Essex and, led by winner Jess Kearns, had the top three places and four of the top five.

Andover ski coach Tom Busta described the scene in baseball language.

"It was like being down by two runs heading into the bottom of the ninth," he said. "Then coming back with three runs to win it."

Andover's Jess Kearns, Maddie Baldwin and Kerry Christopher took spots No. 2-4 overall to help Andover remain undefeated (4-0) and dealing Masconomet its first loss of the season 81-54.

Sarah Redman placed second, Abby Goldfarb third and Becca Basi fourth as Timberlane girls skiing won a five-team meet.

Andover raced past North Andover in season-opening North Shore League action, 99.5-39.5. Out of all the North Shore teams, Andover had the No. 2-4 skiers in Sara Heath, Kerry Christopher and Jess Kearns.

Masconomet swept the top three spots to prevail in the Interscholastic Meet at Bradford. Jessica Kearns, Sara Heath and Kate Kearns placed 5-6-7 to lead second-place Andover while Kelly O'Connor was a top 10 finisher for North Andover.

Masconomet shaded Andover, 75-70, to earn a share of the North Shore League title with previously unbeaten Andover. The Golden Warriors won the first matchup by 12 points. Andover was led by the Christopher sisters, Erin and Kerry, who placed second and fourth overall on the day.
