Frosh spark Andover

 

The beat continues for the state champion Andover girls swimming team. The defending state champions return the nucleus of last year's squad and now they have added a superb freshman class, several of whom flashed their talent in yesterday's win over Melrose. Frosh Kristin Pettini (200 IM) and Julia Perry (100 butterfly) were individual winners and six freshmen took part on three winning relay teams.

Historic day for Methuen

 Kerry Lennon won the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle, then had a part in Methuen's meet-clinching win the 400 freestyle relay.  Lennon's efforts helped Methuen to a 94-92 win ver Central Catholic, the Rangers' first-eve win over the Raiders.

Awesome Andover

Andover rode fine efforts from it's who's who of elite returnees (Maggie D'Innocenzo, Emma Camman, Rachel Moore, Molly Awiszus, Ashley Korsberg, Alexa Korsberg) to roll past Haverhill. The Hillies' Leigh Freeman won the diving, while Sarah Broderick and freshman Emily Brown each contributed a second and a third.

Kickin' it freestyle

Phillips' girls swimming team defeated rival Phillips Exeter for the first time in five years, 105-81. Freshman Amy Zhao (50 and 100 freestyle) and sophomore Julia Smachlo (200 and 500 freestyle) led the Big Blue with a pair of victories apiece.

Andover swimming wins state title

 

BOSTON — Andover junior Rachel Moore was sitting in the stands in 2006 at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool when Lauren English set the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.40 seconds.

Haverhill bests Methuen

Unstoppable Andover smashes 6 records

Andover put on a show at the MVC 1 swimming and diving championships, setting a stunning six league marks and 66 personal bests. The record-breakers included: surging Maggie D'Innoncenzo (200 IM, 500 free, 400 free relay), Rachel Moore (100 fly, 100 back, 400 free relay), Ashlee Korsberg (100 breaststroke, 400 free relay) and Monica Patterson (400 free relay).

D'Innocenzo breaks record

Maggie D'Innocenzo broke a 27-year-old school record in the 100 breaststroke in Andover's swim meet against Chelmsford. D'Innocenzo broke the record with a time of 1:06.94. The previous record was set by former All-American Southern Methodist University swimmer Laureen Lazzaretti in 1983 with a time of 1:07.41. Andover won the battle of unbeatens with Chelmsford and won the MVC large division.
