 The Northern Essex Community College volleyball team fell to Division II powerhouse Community College of Rhode Island 3-0. Jessica Goulet had five blocks and four kills for the Knights (4-4) and Alicia Alan had six kills and seven digs.

Firat win since 2008

 

The Georgetown boys cross country team won its first meet since 2008, whipping Amesbury 22-35. Tom Mulligan was first in 17:10 for 2.9 miles, Casey Reale was third and the Royals went 5-6-7 to win in convincing fashion.

Goldsmith cited

 

Keene State freshmman Samantha Goldsmith of Derry was cited as the Little East Conference women's rookie cross country of the wee.L She was the Owls’ second finisher at the Keene State Invitationa, placing third in 19:27 for 3.1 miles.

Ties best mark

 

Greater Lawrence's boys cross country team improved to 9-0, which ties it for most wins in a season, by whipping Mystic Valley 15-49. Yosvaldy Tejeda remained undefeated and broke his own course record, running 16:52 on the Reggies' 3.06-mile course.

Poggi kicks in win

 

Pinkerton senior Chris Poggi took the lead in the final 400 meters to place first in 16:19 over Londonderry's 5K course as the Astros prevailed by five points, 26-31, in boys cross country. Pat Chabot was third for the Astros, Sean Kopetz was fifth and, in his first varsity race, Phil Parent ran a strong race in ninth as the No. 5 scorer.

Methuen senior Mike O'Donnell pulled away from Lowell standout Pat Coppinger to place first at the 34-team Frank Kelly Invitational in Wrentham yesterday., finishing with a personal-best 5K time of 15:56.

Surging Sachems

 

For the first time in recent memory, Pentucket's boys cross country team improved to 4-0 by defeating Lynnfield 19-42. Sophomore Alex Demeule placed first for the third time, defeating Lynnfield senior Andrew Drinkwater by five seconds, with a 16:23 clocking for 2.95 miles. Ian Mitchell and Drew Capener had fine races to finish 3-4 and were just one second apart.

Senior Day at Windham

Brandon Bielinski set a new team record on Windham's home cross country course, running a 17:57 in a tri-meet against victor Merrimack Valley and Trinity. Alex Brissette ran a personal best as did Ben Gallo and Dan Rubery, celebrating Senior Day along with classmates Garrett McNeil, Matt Erdlen and David McInnis.

Rolling Reggies

 

Led by surprising sophomore Yosvaldy Tejada, who remained undefeated, the Greater Lawrence boys cross country team remained unbeaten by stunning Commonwealth Conference preseason favorite Greater Lowell 20-35. Tejada was first for the Reggies in 17:59 over a tough Gr. Lowell course and classmate Brad Andrews was third in 18:13.
