Bilodeau leads upstart Central to early successes

Meredith Bilodeau of Andover has established herself as a lead on the first-year Central Catholic girls lacrosse team. The junior captain leads the Raiders, who are 2-1-1 in the Merrimack Valley Conference, with 10 goals.1 Photo

After spending her first two years at Central Catholic trying to get a lacrosse team started, Meredith Bilodeau is spending her third season leading the Raiders on the field.

The junior is captain of the first-year Central Catholic lacrosse team, and through four games has scored a team-high 10 goals.

Timberlane dismantled Goffstown, 20-2. Morgan DeShaw had five goals and Lindsay Desharnais had four goals to lead the Owls. Nikki Rothwell scored her first varsity goal in the win.

Masco downs Triton

Maura Brazel scored six goals and Sydney Godett added five more as the Chieftains (7-1) had too much offense for Newburyport to handle in a 24-13 triumph. Margeaux Guercia and Madeline Hardy recorded hat tricks while Kathleen Ragan also had three goals along with two assists. Meanwhile, Heather Fraser had two scores and four helpers and Brittany Fraser added a goal with five assists to help pace a balanced Masco attack.

Tanners outlast Salem

Juniors Katie Henrick and Jessica Leslie each racked up four goals as the Tanners (4-2) held off Danvers, 16-11. Ashley Sullivan had a hat trick to help the Falcons close a deep hole to within two goals late, but Peabody turned the heat back up to pull away. Linda Vitale, Brittany LeFave and Emily Broughton all notched two tallies to key Peabody.

Munroe paces Marblehead

Juliet Munroe scored four times and the Magicians notched five straight tallies to turn a 9-7 deficit into a 12-9 lead. Janey Cooper recorded three goals for Beverly (6-1), but the Panthers couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth affair that was tied 5-5 at halftime. Alyssa and Mary Accomando each had two goals for Beverly.

In the first six games of the girls lacrosse season, one clear-cut theme has unfolded in the River Rival region | royalty reigns supreme. The Georgetown Royals to be specific.

Although talk of a coronation might be premature, the Royals' leading lady and top scorer, Shannon Hartford, certainly looks to be one of the top Cape Ann League talents, amassing 46 points thus far after notching another seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in yesterday's 10-7 win over Newburyport.

Promising Knights junior got off to blistering start but can now only sit and wait

Injured North Andover lacrosse star Briana Connolly probably won't be back for another 2-3 weeks. The junior scored five goals in the opener but then suffered a high ankle sprain.1 Photo

Two days after scoring five goals in the season opener, Briana Connolly tripped over a teammate's foot in practice, rolling her ankle.

"I just laid there for a second, thinking I'd be able to shake it off," said Connolly, one of North Andover's scoring leaders. "When I tried to move my ankle, I started to get very worried that I might be out for a while."

Fraser paces Masco

Brittany Fraser notched an eye-popping seven goals as the Chieftains (6-1) prevailed in a Cape Ann League slugfest, 24-16 over Pentucket. Playmaker Maura Brazel dished out five assists in addition to five goals while Sydney Godett scored fived time to help Masco pull away late. MacKenzie Morris stopped 25 shots in net to earn the win.

Pingree gets by Newton Day

Brit Mscisz notched five goals and Sam Taylor totaled seven points on three scores and four assists as the Highlanders (3-3) scored eight unanswered goals in the second half to win 15-4.
