Windham vs. Stevens (at Cheshire Tire Holiday Basketball Festival at Keene State College)

Connor Redmond (15 points, 11 rebounds) hit two key shots down the stretch during a wild fourth quarter that saw Windham complete its comeback from a six-point deficit during the final two minutes as it pulled out a 51-48 win over Stevens, in the first round of the Cheshire Tire Holiday Tourney at Keene State.  Andrew Lowman added 12 as the Jaquars earned its first win of the season. Windham plays Newport today (4 p.m.), in round two of the holiday tourney.

Nick Morin, Alec Paradis and Korey Lubinger all started on Windham-Pelham's first line and each recorded two goals and three assists as Windham-Pelham hockey routed Monadnock 7-0.

Astros, Salem frosh shine in opener

 

Defending state champion Pinkerton picked up where it left off in girls gymnastics, clipping Londonderry, Salem and Pelham with an impressive show of depth. Salem had a highlight of its own, however, as freshman Kadianne Tommasi captured the beam and floor events and was also first in all-around.

Windham's girls basketball varsity debut was a smash hit as the Jaguars made the long trip to Plymouth and rolled to a 58-32 victory. Clairee Putnam pumped in 21 points for the winners.

Hitting the ice for the first time as a varsity entity, and with only one senior on the roster, Windham-Pelham took on Pembroke-Campbell and easily prevailed, 7-0, last night at the Icenter.

Sanborn trio shines

 

Sanborn's three-man wrestling team won eight of nine matches in a four-team meet at Campbell to open the season yesterday. Ryan Mansaian and Jonathan Scheidegger were both 3-0, each match won with a pin, and Tristan Leek was 2-1.

Windham loses heartbreaker

Windham won the first two games but lost the next two and was nipped 18-16 in the deciding Game 5 against Bedford in the opening round of the Division 2 state tourney.

"To make it to the playoffs our first year as a varsity program is awesome!'' said Jaguars coach Jill Bartlett, whose team finished at 8-9. "I am really proud of the girls. Our inexperience with situations like this showed a bit."

One tough keeper

Morgin Wheeler was spectacular in goal for Windham, stopping all eight shots she faced against a tough Oyster River (13-2) squad, but the Jaguars (2-12-2) fell 1-0 in its season finale.

Wheeler made a spectacular save in the first half, stopping an Oyster River player on a breakaway. But after the save, the Oyster River attacker's momemtum brought her to the net, where she cleated Wheeler in the face, forcing the sophomore to make a trip to the hospital to get an 8-stitch gash sewn back together.
