 The Hornets (1-4-5) were only down 2-0 at the half but eventually the Wildcats (9-1) took over in the second half. For Manchester Essex, sophomore center forward John Houston, senior captain and forward Peter Gudonis, junior center midfielder Greg Doyle and junior left wing Ryan Brewster played well despite the tough result.

The Amesbury Indians (4-7-2) fell to the Manchester-Essex Hornets (10-1-1) yesterday, 4-0. The Indians were out-shot 27-4, but Kaitlyn Goodwin made 18 saves for the Indians.

"We were overwhelmed with their aggression and strong play," said Indian coach Gail Kelleher. "We did adjust, but they're just a better team at this point of the year. Michelle Foley played her best game of the year, and Maggie Santosuosso also played extremely well."

Amesbury 4, Manchester Essex 1

Facing the Indians (5-5) for the second time this season, the Hornets (1-8) played much better this time around. Senior captain and striker Alex Doyle score the goal for Manchester Essex.

Caroline Martin was a bright spot for the Hornets (0-8) as she placed fifth in a time of 17:18.

The Hornets (5-5) lost a tri-meet to Newburyport (21-32) and Hamilton-Wenham (18-42). Manchester Essex had strong showings from Eric Kimball (6th, 14:58), Ben Girard (9th, 15:16), Leo Daley (13th, 15:31), Spencer Lange (17th, 15:55) and Nate Jermaine (18, 15:59).

The Manchester Essex field hockey team will be in the state tournament yet again.

That much was clinched yesterday as the Hornets blanked Triton, 5-0, to improve to 9-1-1 on the season.
