Astros' Brennan 21st at New Englands

Luke Brennan placed 21st in a field of 263 and led Pinkerton to a 16th-place finish at the New England Championships in Thetford, Vt. He completed the 3.1-mile course in 17:03.3. The next top Astros were Ethan Charles in 76th and Jack Cameron in 119th. The Khalil Brothers of Sanborn competed with Jared in 47th (17:30.9) and Tyson in 80th.

Windham takes 16th; Pinkerton duo shines

Windham, the lone local team qualifier, placed 16th at the Meet of Champions. The Jaguars were paced by Ava Sanchez, a two-sport fall athlete who also helped Windham to the state field hockey finals. Sanchez covered the 3.11-mile Mines Falls Park course in 20:47.79 to place 79th overall. Teammate Riley Morgan was 84th. Pinkerton didn't qualify but had the region's top individual runners at Saturday's M of C/all-state meet. Isabelle Groulx was 20th (19:14.13) just in front of Contessa Silva in 21st. Both are only sophomores. The No. 3 local runner was Salem sophomore Lily Thomas in 31st in the 148-runner field. Portsmouth Christian junior Brianna Malone won the race in 18:03.77 while Dover won the team title.

Brennan, Astros shine at All-States

NASHUA — Senior Luke Brennan and Pinkerton Academy starred Saturday at the Meet of Champions (All-State meet). Brennan covered the 3.11-mile Mines Falls Park course in 15:32.30. He paced the Astros to a fourth-place team finish with 147 points. The other Astro scorers were Ethan Charles (20th scorer, 24th overall, 16:20.08), Jack Cameron (33rd overall), Nathan Binda (64th) and Theo Davis (71st). The Astros' top three are seniors while Binda is a sophomore and Davis a junior. Windham (7th place) and Sanborn (8th place) each scored 203 points with the Jaguars winning the tie-breaker. Windham's leaders were junior Carter Logan in 26th overall (16:23.04) backed by the Gower-Halls. Senior Baxter was 40th and junior Isaac was 53rd.  The Khalil boys brought their A game for Sanborn with junior Jared 10th overall (15:45.56) and sophomore Tyson 14th (15:56.62). Jake Pitre was 31st and the No. 2 freshman in the meet.  Timberlane senior Matthew Fairhurst placed 67th in the 147-runner field. Bishop Guertin won the tie-breaker to win a thriller over Coe-Brown while C-B junior Aidan Cox won the race in 15:01.45 with Keene's Torin Kindopp second in 15:25.29. Cox repeated as champion and was runner-up as a freshman.

Owls surge forward

 

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Timberlane scored all three of its goals in the second half to advance to the second round of the Div. 1 girls soccer tournament with a 3-1 victory over Windham. Bella Keogh and Alida Bates both had a goal and an assist for the Owls (14-3) and Norah Barry had her first career goal. Keogh's goal was her 35th of the year.

Windham advances

 

Windham cruised to victory in the first round of the Division 1 volleyball tournament, blanking Spaulding 3-0. Taylor Stevens had 9 kills, 17 service points and 7 aces for the Jaguars(17-2)  and Lana Carboni had 6 kills, 10 service points and 10 digs.

Windham falls to PKs

 

Defending Division 1 boys soccer state champion Windham couldn't defend its title, falling to Exeter in PKs after the score was tied 1-1 following overtime. Ben Breen scored for Windham in the second half before Exeter tied it up with three minutes left in regulation.Windham scored a goal in overtime for the apparent game-winner but it was called back by an infraction.

Ponzini, Windham headed to sixth straight title game

Sophia Ponzini scored three goal, sending two-time defending Division 1 champion No. 3 Windham field hockey back to the state title game for the sixth straight season with a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Bedford in the Division 1 semifinals. 

Ella Reeners added the other goal for the Jaguars (15-2-1), while Annie Mitchell made five saves, including a crucial stop off a stroke with less than five minutes to play in the game. 

Windham will look to win its fourth state title in five years when it takes on top-seeded Exeter on Sunday (11 a.m.) at Bedford High School.

Cecilia Ponzini scored the only game in the second half to propel the No. 3 Windham field hockey team past Manchester Central 1-0 and into Wednesday's Division 1 semifinals against No. 2 Bedford. The Jaguars (14-2-1) lost to Bedford 2-1 earlier in the season.

NASHUA — Windham's Tiger An scored two second-half touchdowns to cut Nashua South's lead to just six points in the fourth quarter, but the upset-minded Jaguars fell short to the Panthers, 20-14 on Friday night.

Good effort

 

Windham's volleyball team gave unbeaten Bedford a battle in a 3-1 loss. It was the first set Bedford had dropped all year and all the sets were competitive. Sam Blandford had 30 assists and five aces for the Jaguars (14-2).
