Climbing the standings

Pinkerton volleyball bested previously-undefeated Spauliding  25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16 to jump into second place in New Hampshire Division 1 standings. Kacie Connal registered 15 kills and eight blocks, while Meagan Farris had seven kills and 11 service points to lead the Astros (12-1), who trail only Nashua North (12-1).

Salem lost for the second time this season, but both losses have been to the cream of the crop. Yesterday, the Blue Devils fell to Spaulding (10-1 Division 1). Their first loss was to then-undefeated Pinkerton. Salem (10-2) was led again by Amanda Saab, who finished with 16 kills. Becca Weiss also contributed seven kills to go along with eight service points and 12 digs.

Statistical star

Sophomore Katherine Harris posted her third shutout of the young season as Pinkerton bested Spaulding, 2-0.

Londonderry tops Spaulding

Londonderry topped Spaulding 3-2. Margaret McSpiritt scored the first goal for Londonderry and was assisted by Leah Walter. Rounding out the scoring were Tori McCombs and Charlene Crefeld, who were assisted by Kelley Griffin.

Londonderry narrowly beats Spaulding 2-1

Zack Champa and Kyle Gracia each scored once to give Londonderry a 2-1 win over Spaulding. Aaron Starkman and Craig Gurley combined for the win in net.

Astros top Spaulding

Pinkerton defeated Spaulding 3-1. Kyle Gundrum, Mike Wanelik and Corey Grant each scored goals and Omar Khartabil chipped in two assists.

NH Division 1 state meet

The dice came up with a pair of nines for the Timberlane wrestling team at the Division 1 state meet yesterday, and they were big winners.

The Owls, thanks to a shocking 9-for-9 performance in the semifinals earlier in the day, cruised to their ninth straight Division 1 crown in resounding fashion.

Comeback falls shorts

Despite sparkling outside shooting from Beau Cassidy, Pinkerton saw a third quarter comeback go for naught as Spaulding held on for a 67-60 victory. Cassidy drilled seven 3-pointers for a game-high 23 points, but Spaulding prevailed.

Timberlane again stymies Spaulding

Going into last Saturday, Spaulding had dominated New Hampshire Division 2 to the tune of a 46-game unbeaten streak. Over the last week, Timberlane has soundly put that streak to rest.

Nick Bundzinski's goal with 5:34 left in regulation gave the Owls a 2-1 win, their second victory over the Red Raiders in six days.

Desroches' hat trick pushes Salem to Classic final

Salem coach Mark McGinn estimates that last year, Josh Frahm and Ryan Desroches combined for 10 shorthanded goals. So far this season, they weren't even a threat for any.

"This year they haven't been getting on the puck," said McGinn.
