Top seed to Reggies

 

Greater Lawrence's boys used a balanced attack to smack Minuteman 63-30 to end its regular season at 16-4 and earn the top seed for the upcoming Division 3 North tournament.

The Reggies will also be in the state vocational tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host Greater Lowell at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Top seed Worcester Tech and Monty Tech will also play Saturday with the winners to square off Sunday.

Georgetown's wrestling team, which won only five meets all of last year, improved to 9-4-1 with a 39-18 victory over Minuteman. Constantine Galanis had the fastest of five pins for the Royals, in 46 seconds.

Reagan steps up

When coach Ryan Richards shifted Whittier from a zone to a man-to-man defense, Nick Reagan drew the assignment of covering Minuteman's top scorer. The sophomore came through big-time, shutting down his opponent as the Wildcats prevailed, 16-5. Mike Nicholas scored a season-high eight goals in the victory.

Three-year high

Using just six players, Whittier not only beat Minuteman to move to 14-2 on the season but it scored its most points in a game in three seasons, winning 91-64. It was the Wildcats' highest point total since Jan. 28, 2010 when they beat Greater Lawrence, 92-81. Justin Reyes went off for 41 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Ryan Grant added 21 points and 11 assists.

Greater Lawrence 89, Minuteman 78

The Greater Lawrence co-ed team beat Minuteman 89-78 for its first win since the 2009-10 season."We are pumped!" gushed coach Jen Dube. Juan Garcia won two events and a relay and Dan Gomez won the diving and was on the winning 200 medley quartet.
