Better late than never

After enduring a 2-0 Pingree lead for much of the last half of the game, Packy Jones' unassisted goal with 38 seconds left in regulation drew Brooks even in a 2-2 season-opening overtime deadlock. Brendan McDonough drew Brooks within one with 2:41 left in the third period. Andover's Dan Prawdzik was stout in the Pingree net, turning aside 30 shots.

Emerson Rogers of Andover netted the game-winning goal with 40 seconds left to lift Brooks past Pingree 11-10. Nicholas Galanos stopped 14 shots in the victory.

Bare-Lee victorious

Katherine Lee was playing in the final match of the day with Phillips and Pingree deadlocked at 2-2. The freshman from South Carolina won a 2-hour 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 thriller to give the Big Blue the win.

Local flavor to Phillips' victory

Windham's Kyleigh Keating (six goals, 14 on the young season) and Andover's Summer Washburn (four goals, nine to date) propelled the Phillips' offense in a 13-9 defeat of Pingree. Haley Scott of Andover turned in a strong defensive effort for the Big Blue.

Garnet Hathaway netted three goals and Tyler Kirsch stopped 24 shots to help Phillips beat Pingree 6-2. Hathaway is one of Phillips' top returners as he scored 15 goals last year.

Brooks falls in heartbreaking fashion

BEVERLY — Brooks head coach Alex Konovalchik called it “one of the most difficult ways to lose a game.”

That was an understatement.

Leading Pingree 6-0 in the New England Prep Clark-Francis Bowl, Brooks was in the process of running out the clock with 2:09 left in the game.

Merrimack's Fischer cited

 Merrimack College sophomore Jason Fischer was named the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week. He  became the first player in school history to intercept three passes in a game, leading Merrimack to a 46-14 victory over Pace to clinch a share of its second-ever Northeast-10 Championship. Fischer returned his second interception 52 yards for his first career touchdown. He finished the year second in the Northeast-10 with six interceptions. The six picks tie the school record set last season by Mike O’Brien.

Nick Galanos of Atkinson turned aside 16 shots in Brooks' 6-4 win over Pingree. In the Green and White's last three games, Galanos has saves totals of 16 (yesterday), 15 (Wednesday against St. Marks) and 25 (Saturday against Nobles).
